Plaintiff alleged that the defendant psychiatrist failed to properly assess and evaluate a patient prior to allowing him to leave unaccompanied on a pass from an in-patient psychiatric facility. The 47 year-old patient never returned to the hospital and committed suicide later that day. He was survived by his wife and two teenage children. The plaintiff's economist testified to approximately $2 million in loss of earnings as a result of the death. FKB associate Kathryn Collins assisted Neil Kornfeld with the trial.
