Andrew S. Kowlowitz is a partner focusing on attorney malpractice, professional liability and insurance coverage litigation. Mr. Kowlowitz has successfully defended lawyers and other professionals in complex litigation in federal and state court, as well as in the appellate courts.
Mr. Kowlowitz' practice also includes the drafting of insurance policies and the representation of insurers in complex insurance coverage matters, both in the London and U.S. insurance markets. Mr. Kowlowitz has represented the London insurance market in connection with several high profile, high exposure matters including the World Trade Center/September 11, 2001 liability insurance coverage litigation, IPO Laddering litigation, Adelphia class action lawsuit, and the Lernout & Hauspie-related litigation.
Mr. Kowlowitz has served as monitoring and coverage counsel to insurers on numerous successful professional liability, managed care and miscellaneous errors and omissions insurance programs in his career.
Mr. Kowlowitz is a graduate, cum laude, of the State University of New York at New Paltz with bachelors of science in accounting, and has received a juris doctorate from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law with a concentration in taxation. Mr. Kowlowitz has written and contributed to numerous articles on insurance coverage and insurance defense matters and has been published in the Professional Liability Underwriting Society (PLUS) Journal.
Mr. Kowlowitz is a member of the New York State Bar Association (Trial Lawyers Section) and the Professional Liability Underwriting Society. He is admitted to practice in the State of New York, New Jersey and Florida, and the U.S. District Court, Southern and Eastern District of New York. Mr. Kowlowitz was associated with a national insurance defense firm prior to joining Furman Kornfeld & Brennan LLP.
